Oxfordshire Mind Goes to the Dogs

Oxfordshire Mind Goes to the Dogs on June 17.

The event, which will be held at the Mill in Cowley, will start with a dog walk to raise awareness for Oxfordshire Mind and then the artistic dogs will be auctioned.

The dogs are made by Oxfordshire Mind service users at the Mill and Tom Campbell, they are made from paper mache and then decorated into wonderful pieces of artwork.

This event was inspired after Tom Campbell (artist) discovered his brother, who has mental health issues, lived in Oxford and had been missing for ten years.

Mr Campbell, who usually lives in Cork, said: "The reason I'm in Oxford is that my brother turned up here. I came to support him, and since then he has been offered a Mind flat, so I contacted Mind at the Mill arts centre on Cowley Road and suggested the project, having done something similar in Cork.

"The main idea was to take the dogs out on a walk along the Cowley Road as it would be fun to see group of dogs on the street. For me it was a pleasure working in the Mill , I found the service users and staff very welcoming and I was pleased to achieve the goal of over 100 dogs"

Dan Knowles, Oxfordshire Mind CEO, says "these dogs are wonderful examples of the work our service users do. Making them has been a great team activity, and they're fun to walk down the Cowley Road - definitely a way to turn heads and make new friends!"
